Born without skull: US doctors create fresh head for Nigerian child

•We share in our daughter’s pains –Dad
…Pleads for more assistance
From DENNIS MERNYI
With  much expectation, the world is waiting to see  OkikiJesu Olawuyi grab a fitting place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Many across the world want to see this happen. And what that means is that a Nigerian child is well on her way to making history once she scales the mountain of surgeries standing in her path of life.
OkikiJesu  Olawuyi was born without a skull but not without a will to live. Bones from her hands are being obtained to construct a skull bone to help her live. Amazingly, she is winning this battle for  her life  at John Hopkins University in far away United States of America. There, the best hands the world can assemble are with her every passing hour fighting a medical war to give life to a miracle child  who has announced to  the entire human community that she has something different to offer. First grade surgeons – irrespective of colour, race and tongue are tasking  their expertise to see that this wonder of the 21st century lives to tell her story and  reports say that they are doing a great job to save her.

Dying for their wives

•Abia communities where husband is struck dead over spouse’s adultery
•Prayers can’t destroy deity –Monarchs
By VINCENT KALU UKPONG and CHIOMA IGBOKWE
The biblical saying that the sins of the father shall be visited on their sons is a present day phenomenon in Ihechiowa and Ututu, two neighbouring communities in Arochukwu local government area, Abia State which have some things in common. One of these is how an adulterous woman is punished. Well, the irony is that, it is not the wife that gets punished for her adulterous undertaking. It is her husband.
He dies, if he continues in the marriage. But, according to the communities, the right to punish resides with the deity. As the communities claim, the deity first exposes the infidelity and the man, together with the clan, takes it from there. Punishment is applied only when the woman involved, fails to confess and performs some traditional rites.
First to speak on the issue is 96- year old Eze Arunsi Ota, Ezeogo of Umuchiakuma, Ihechiowa with his nephew, Prince Kalu Uche Ota, 32, a bricklayer. Also, in an interview, the traditional ruler of Amaeke Ututu, Ezeogo Nchehe Okeke in company of the palace secretary, Godwin Kalu Nwankwo with the palace treasurer, Cletus Ulu Ekea, reveals how the deity works, kills, its appeasement, and futile prayers by Christians in the community to destroy it.

•Medical equipment dealer, doctors in the soup for operating illegal blood bank
•Pay students N1,500 to part with pint of blood
•Victims fall ill frequently, one dies
A 23-year-old man, Olusola Opeyemi and his accomplices have landed in trouble for operating what could pass for illegal and secret blood bank in Orile-Agege area of Lagos. The suspects lured innocent and unsuspecting students of Oyewole Junior High School, aged between 11 and 15, into parting with their blood for a paltry sum of N1, 500.

Operating from a shop located at No. 23 Owolabi Omotoye Street, Orile-Agege, where he sold medical equipment and other articles, Opeyemi and other suspects had convinced their victims that parting with some quantity of blood will fetch them money, while not putting them at risk. The unsuspecting students had fallen for their antics and therefore, freely gave their blood at a fee of N1, 500. Before the illegal business was exposed, no fewer than 10 students had already “donated” blood.
